Our client needed additional support to ensure their platform’s leaderboards remained stable, efficient, and scalable. As a critical component of the user experience, the leaderboards had to handle complex ranking logic, historical tracking, and real-time updates while maintaining low latency. With a growing user base and increasing query volumes, the client sought external expertise to optimize performance, prevent disruptions, and allow their internal team to focus on strategic priorities.
Appliscale seamlessly integrated into the client’s development ecosystem, enhancing infrastructure without disrupting workflows and leveraging existing technologies. Using AWS services—Aurora MySQL, Redis, and Kafka—we built a scalable, game-agnostic leaderboard handling 20 million daily queries with millisecond response times and 2.3 million daily users. The system supports player and team leaderboards, tie-breaking, seasonal resets, custom grouping, historical data retention, and player banning. We improved testing, deployed hotfixes rapidly with an asynchronous model, and managed On-Call support, reducing strain on the client’s U.S.-based team while ensuring stability and long-term scalability.
Appliscale’s involvement delivered immediate and long-term improvements in platform performance and stability. The client benefited from faster issue resolution, with hotfixes often deployed the day after an issue was identified, minimizing downtime. The enhanced platform was integrated with two worldwide online multi-user live games enabling transparent leaderboards ranking tracking.
Additionally, our support with On-Call responsibilities allowed their U.S.-based team to stay focused on high-priority initiatives without handling off-hour incidents. By seamlessly blending into their existing ecosystem, we helped ensure service continuity while enhancing the efficiency of their development cycle, enabling the client to maintain a reliable and scalable platform for ongoing success.
